Jax's Treetop Rescue
Jax jumped from one tree to another as I was setting my line to rescue him. Usually that doesn't bode well for a sucessful rescue, but thankfully the third tree was "Just Right" and he stayed there sweetly until I could get over to him and make the rescue.

Loki's Treetop Rescue
Переглядів 4112 роки тому
Loki had been stuck in a few tree tops for 5 days. He was a skittish cat and everytime that a rescuer would get close to him he would climb higher, or jump to another tree, or in some other way evade all attempts to get him down. When I attempted this rescue it was 99 degrees outside. Loki had just survived being sprayed by a fire hose by some well-meaning fire fighters. After that ordeal his f...

Double end splicing tutorial for tree swings
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 роки тому
This video shows how to splice an eye with hardware into both ends of a rope. One side will have a locking brummel splice and the other end will have a triple tuck eye splice. These instructions are only for 5/8" diameter Samson Tenex TEC (Twin End Carrier) 12 strand hollow braid polyester rope. You can buy Tenex TEC rope by the foot from many online rope suppliers including arborist supply sites.

North Carolina Kitten Rescued from 70 Feet Up a Tulip Tree
Переглядів 2973 роки тому
A family in Mebane, NC heard a kitten calling for help somewhere in their back yard. After some looking they realized it was in a tree, but night was falling and they couldn't actually spot the kitten. The texted me that night to see if I could help in the morning. When I arrived I couldn't spot the kitten either. Then finally I saw a tiny black form at the very top of the tree. Because the tre...
Willow's Fourth Treetop Rescue
Переглядів 2883 роки тому
Willow is a female Maine Coon cat who I have rescued 3 times before. She is such a sweetheart that I know I will always get some in-tree cuddles with her before I have to bring her down in the rescue bag. Last Friday Willow was enjoying hunting rodents in a freshly mowed pasture near her house and was having such a good time that she wouldn't come in at night like she normally does. The next mo...

Climax NC kitty rescued from 40 feet up a tree
You missed the ultimate best kind of all! As a child, in my backyard there was a tree that, from the base to about 10 feet off the ground, grew at a 45 degree angle. About 5 feet above the bend where it went from 45 degrees to vertical, I attached a rope. Swinging away from the tree, there was the usual long pendulum motion, but when the rope hit the tree, I could pump with my legs (I stood on the loop at the bottom)and the sudden truncating of the length of the pendulum increased my velocity rapidly, the thrill was exhilarating. Somebody please build one of these and let me know how much fun you have.
good work
dont ever tell anyone where it is
You are a legend. Keep up the good work!
Best video ever
Can the zip line carry someone back to the starting point? I’m like you king at installing one to get down a hill to a lake.
Happiest trees in the world!
You do a wonderful work.. m just getting relaxed watching those wonderful swings.. love ur work
So just drilled through the tree for the line ?? OMG
Bro why didn't you just climb the trunk would have been faster just need to make sure you use a ladder for the first 15ft.
Any idea if I have just one tree 50 feet no ladder lol searched everywhere and I can’t be drilling that high
I don’t think the argument was so much about the unpredictable wear. It was about the rope wrench collapsing on the zig zag links and can cause collapse.
Do you every come down to the Atlanta area (north)? Or know someone that provides similar services in this area?
Pretty shocking
Where did oyu buy your hardware? and what are ther specs o the hardware?
Bugs are eating that tree up
Pat?at 7:45 what was that throwline container ..that popped open.long before they made them? ????merry Christmas
How will you even get down Patrick Brandt 🤔😨😬😧🇺🇸🇮🇹🙀💀🤕😵😵💫😮
Did you stop making videos?
I’m dizzy watching this lol what a great video.
So cool love it😊
Wow. That was very informative and puts to rest some of my concerns with the Petzl zigzag. Thank you.
What is the maximum height with a two rope swing that a person can pump themselves? My limb is 23’ from the ground. It is close to horizontal. I did not off set the ropes like you do so one of my ropes is about an inch longer. I used a bowline knot with a Scott’s stopper knot and then duct taped the tails of the rope. Then put the other end of the ropes through the loop and pulled them around the branch. I just can’t seem to get it going very high. I also built a swing out of lumber and chain that is 9’ off the ground and I seem to be able to get this one higher off the ground, but of course the arc is shorter. I was wondering the physical limits of a person being able to swing, but I think that movement of the branch, stretching of the rope, and any unevenness of rope length further reduce the maximum swing potential. My 9’ swing is very sturdy and solid and of course the chains don’t stretch. So I’m wondering if this is the reason it swings better or is the arc on the 23’ swing just beyond the physical limits of body weight being able to power it. I’d love to learn more about those physics and if there are any tricks to gain additional height. Thanks!
To reiterate what others have said, thank you so much for making this video. Clears up the functional and safety concerns regarding the Zig Zag plus in an SRT configuration and your scientific assessments leave no stone unturned. Wouldn't surprise me if Petzl proffered this video in promotion of the Zig Zag. Wish videos with this level of detail existed for many other arb products. Many thanks again 👏👍
Say hi to the Allreds from Mom.
Thank you for your detailed description.
Not that it’s a major issue but it’s interesting how the screw gate turns and opens during the ride, and the screws down again.. The con of screw gate carbiners..
Great demonstration of how your zip line works with all the accessories. Well done!
if i owned my buddies place it would be an amuzement park
Those are some decent swings! I love it.
it seems like the weight of the line will start pulling the tree over. This does not seem like a healthy rig for the tree. Why not use a strong post that has two or more steel cables anchoring it to the ground?
Wow, thanks for prompt reply. 😊 Obvs , for me, the weight is going downhill. Is there some sort of brake on the motor?
now petzl will redesign new version
very great information. thanks very much for this video
Wow that’s a nice yard
Can u get us a link or description of the mounting bracket, hardware you used please?
I want one👍😎
Interested in the zz
Did it completely wrong
Imagining myself up there, way up high, with that heavy big power tool gives me the willie's.
I wonder how zillon without rope wrench would work for SRT 😊
Where do I get that anchor so I can put the cable through the tree? What is it called?
Could you provide a list of the hardware materials you used? Want to do something like this for a client in our area. Unless you want to come down to South Florida and help out!
Great job. Ignore all the naysayers, and I’m sure an arborist would do just that when it comes to the crazies.
I liked this idea so much, I bought the same reel. It just came yesterday. Can't wait to use it!
First stitch the eye calculate the number of stitches the strength of the thread how many stitches to match the rope strength, plus some say maybe 20% extra then a proper whipping over the sewing before the shrink wrapping
i fucking love science
This was very informative thank you for putting this together.
Do you know anyone in ATL who can do this?!?
Thanks for the great video! I showed your video to my dad and he thinks you're amazing too. My great-grandfather was a lot like you and built swings (and homes 😊) all over our town. He built the biggest swing overlooking a lake; it lasted until decades later when a tornado went through the area. We made a plaque memorial to him out of the wooden seat. I have it in my home today.
